A concise guide to the terms used throughout Bornsky. Each definition describes what the chart calculates and how the app uses it, without turning a symbol into a certainty.
Chart basics
- Natal chart
- A map of the sky for a birth date, time, and place. It is the fixed reference chart used for placements and personal timing.
- Sun
- The chart point associated with purpose, vitality, and the way a person directs attention. Its zodiac sign is set by the birth date.
- Moon
- The fast-moving point associated with instinct, emotional rhythm, and familiar responses. Its exact sign can change within a day.
- Ascendant
- The zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at the recorded time and place. It starts the first house and requires a known birth time.
- Midheaven
- The point near the top of the chart associated with public direction and visibility. Its exact degree depends on birth time and location.
- Houses
- Twelve sections of the chart tied to areas of life. Their cusps depend on time, place, and the selected house system.
Chart geometry
- Aspects
- Measured angles between chart points. Bornsky shows the aspect type, its orb, and whether a moving contact is applying or separating.
- Conjunction
- Two points close to the same zodiac degree. Their themes combine strongly; the result depends on the points involved.
- Sextile
- An angle of about 60°. It is traditionally read as an opening or cooperative connection that still asks for participation.
- Square
- An angle of about 90°. It describes friction or pressure that can demand adjustment and action.
- Trine
- An angle of about 120°. It is traditionally associated with ease, flow, and abilities that may operate with little effort.
- Opposition
- An angle of about 180°. It places two themes across from one another and asks for balance or integration.
- Orb
- The allowed distance from an exact aspect. A smaller orb means the measured angle is closer to exact.
Timing techniques
- Transit
- A current or future planet compared with the natal chart. Transits describe timing; they do not guarantee an event.
- Retrograde
- The period when a planet appears to move backward against the zodiac from Earth. It is an apparent motion with precise start, station, and end times.
- Progressed chart
- A symbolic timing chart that advances the natal chart by a conventional day-for-a-year method.
- Solar return
- The exact yearly moment when the Sun returns to its natal longitude, calculated for the selected location.
- Annual profection
- A traditional technique that activates one house for each year of life and identifies its ruling planet as a time lord.
- Electional window
- A future time selected against stated astrological conditions for a specific intention. Bornsky shows every rule that passed or failed.
